How to Switch Ignition Interlock Providers in Florida (Without Restarting Your Requirement)

Yes, You Can Switch - and Your Time Counts
If your current provider isn't working out - billing surprises, a service center that's too far, support that can't help with a Florida question - you are not stuck. Florida allows you to change IID providers without restarting your requirement period, as long as the transition is done correctly. The key rule: no gap in monitoring. Your data continuity is what proves ongoing compliance to the FLHSMV.
Before You Do Anything
- Read your current agreement - look for early termination fees and notice requirements (ours are published, every provider's should be)
- Check your account standing - outstanding balances usually must be settled before the old provider releases you
- Don't schedule a removal yourself - an unauthorized removal reads as non-compliance; the swap must be coordinated
- Confirm your order allows it - a small number of court orders name a specific provider; if yours does, you'll need the court's OK first
The Switch, Step by Step
- Book installation with the new provider first. Tell them you're transferring - we handle transfer-ins regularly at all 27 locations
- Coordinate one swap day. The old device comes out and the new one goes in back-to-back - ideally same appointment window, so there's no unmonitored gap
- New provider files the installation certificate with the FLHSMV (and the court, if your order requires it)
- Old provider closes your account and reports de-installation
- Keep every document - both certificates, final invoices, and your calibration history. Paper wins disputes.
What It Costs
Expect three line items: your old provider's removal/early-termination fee (check your agreement), the new provider's installation fee, and any account balance you're settling. The new lease simply continues from there - your requirement clock keeps running and your compliance record carries forward.

Make the Switch
One call starts it: +1-800-FLORIDAIID, English or Spanish. Tell us who your current provider is and your county, and we'll coordinate the swap day, the FLHSMV paperwork, and your first calibration schedule - usually within days. You can also book a transfer-in installation online.
