What Calibration Actually Does

An ignition interlock is a precision fuel-cell instrument, and its sensor drifts over time. At a calibration appointment a technician verifies the device against a known alcohol standard, recalibrates it if needed, downloads your data log for reporting to the FLHSMV, and inspects the wiring for tampering. The visit usually takes 15 to 20 minutes.

How Often You'll Go

Florida requires service every 30 days - it's mandatory for every client, no exceptions. Your device displays a countdown and warns you days ahead, and most providers (including us) send text and email reminders. Put every date in your phone calendar the day you install.

Between visits, keep the handset at reasonable temperatures and don't let your battery die - both can corrupt readings and turn a routine visit into a problem report.

What It Costs

Some providers bundle calibration into the monthly lease; others charge per visit - typically a modest service fee. What actually gets expensive is the missed-appointment and lockout fees, not the calibration itself. Every fee we charge is listed on our pricing page before you sign anything.

What Happens If You Miss One

The device gives a grace window, then locks out - the car won't start until it's serviced. Consequences stack up fast:

• A lockout reset fee and possibly a tow or mobile-service call
• The missed visit is reported to the FLHSMV as potential non-compliance
• Repeated misses can extend your IID requirement or jeopardize a hardship license

If you're going to miss a date - travel, illness, anything - call your provider before the deadline. Rescheduling is free; lockouts are not.

Making It Painless

Calibration is only painful when it's far away or unplanned. Choose a service center near your commute, book recurring appointments at the same time each cycle, and combine the trip with errands.
